This is a very interesting video that was filmed in 2006 by TED.com about the future of textbooks becoming more open-sourced and able to adapt to a certain teaching style or a students learning abilities.

Have you heard of CampusFood.Com?

We at sKoolBoY would like to recommend this very interesting and frankly very essential website for college students. Everyone needs to eat and this is a great way for you to buy food from restaurants near your college campus. Think about it, you are sitting in your class and your stomach is grumbling, just go to campusfood.com and search for your school and see if any restaurants are listed. Choose a restaurant, pick what you want, pay for your order, and you can be eating your food right after you leave the class. Don't stay hungry! Itadikimasu(Japanese)! Eat Up!

In Memory of 9/11

We at sKoolBoY would like to take the time to pay tribute to all the people who lost their lives or sacrificed their lives to save others during 9/11. Our hearts go out to the families who were impacted by this terrible and tragic event. We hope that everyone takes this time to remember that we are all the same and have to work together to unite others. That is one of the lessons that 9/11 taught everyone and we hope that everyone remembers that.

Reserve Price-Now You Know

We just want to clear up some confusion about some auctions on the site. Certain items have a reserve price which means that the item will only sell after it is bid to a certain price. For example, if you see a bid for $5, it may have a reserve price of $10. That means once you have bid the item to $10, that is the lowest price the seller is willing to accept. You can always "Buy It Now" which is a price that the seller is willing to sell an item right away. This price is always higher than the reserve price. If you are still unsure about anything on the site, we explain this further on the site. Click on the link at the bottom of the page that says "How To Use Site." Or post comments on here or send us an email at help@skoolboy.com.

Students are Lazy, We know that!

It is common knowledge that college students are inherently lazy. It seems that they have the ability to buy or sell their textbooks online but continue to act against their best interests. If they buy books online, they save tons of money. Now, several students buy their books online but compared to the total amount of college students out there, this is surprisingly a small percentage of students. The percentage of students who end up selling their books back online is an even lesser percentage. You might say, wait, how come I find people selling books on other sites? Well, that's true, but you might find that a handful of people are selling the book you need at decent prices. What if everyone who used that textbook you need decided to sell it online? That would create a flood of books and you would most likely find the book you need. Unfortunately, schools nowadays are requiring that students purchase the most current edition of the book which might not be offered by other students who had the previous condition. This forces the student to buy from the school bookstore. In other cases, a particular class may have a special textbook created for that class which is another way of forcing a student to buy from the bookstore. We at sKoolBoY understand that this is wrong and students end up spending $100-$200 more on books because of this type of sneaky way of selling books. But, imagine that amount of money you could recoup for selling your book back online at sKoolBoY and telling your friends that you are selling your book on here as well. Of course, we are not the only site that offers this, BUT, we do offer students the opportunity to sell their books on the site and get a better Return. How? You can sell your book on sKoolBoY for FREE. That means you post the item on the site without paying insertion fees. Then, when the item is sold, you only pay 4% of the selling price. Now, imagine that you bought your book for $200. Ridiculous Price! But, you were forced to buy it at the bookstore or could not find a good price online. Now, you want to sell it online because the bookstore will only give you $50 back or less depending on the condition, which is HORRIBLE! So, you decide to sell it online at sKoolBoY, let's say you sell it for $120 considering that is used but in good condition. That means you make $115.20 if you subtract 4% from $120 which is $4.80. Now, that is way BETTER than selling it back to the bookstore. You just made an extra $65 from selling it online. That is just an example of what you could make from selling it online. Most students are interested in buying their books first. So, lets say someone is selling the same book, they make be satisfied with selling it for $75 or even less than that. The more people that participate, the better your chances of making some nice pocket money to spend on Campus and the more likely you will find someone selling your book at a better price than what the bookstore is offering. Prove us wrong and be proactive in buying/selling your textbooks and other stuff online because soon most things will be handled online anyway so it always better to be ahead of the curve.

Get Prepped is not good: Here's Why...

Recently, one of our staff members used a website called Getprepped.com and received tutoring from a tutor named Jeanette. He took the test and received a decent score and was curious about whether he should retake it again or apply to Law school anyway. He tried to contact his tutor and she would not even reply to his emails or the few messages that were left on her phone. He then proceeded to contact GetPrepped.com who were not very helpful in reprimanding this tutor. The tutor said she was working 50+ hour weeks and could not talk on the phone. That seemed ok but several times when she tutored the skoolboy staff member, she was on the phone during his tutoring time. Therefore, she was being dishonest and disingenuous. We here at sKoolBoY.com give GetPrepped.com a D for service and Jeanette Smith an F for her lack of maturity and professionalism. Tell us your experiences with bad tutors or other tutoring companies like Kaplan and Princeton Review, etc.
